125-MW solar PV project commissioned in Oman

Solar EPC provider, Sterling and Wilson Solar Limited (SWSL), announced yesterday that it has commissioned its maiden solar PV project in Oman, approximately 210 km northeast of Thumrai, making SWSL the first Indian company to commission a solar PV project in this region.

SWSL had received the order for the 125-MW (DC) solar project from Amin Renewable Energy Company SAOC. The project is Oman’s first renewable-based Independent Power Project (IPP) as well as the biggest single-unit solar park to use bifacial modules, which generate less heat and can withstand the desert’s temperature fluctuations.

During construction, due to the extreme rocky ground conditions, SWSL said it needed to deploy 165 earth moving machines to excavate the 100-km cable trench that was needed for the project.

The Amin Solar PV project is supported by the Japanese-Omani consortium and designed by Marubeni Corporation, Oman Gas Company S.A.O.C., Bahwan Renewable Energy Company LLC and Nebras Power.

SWSL has around 9.2 GWP projects in various geographies and the company’s portfolio includes a 1,177 MWp solar project in Abu Dhabi, one of the largest single location solar PV plants in the world.
